Section 22 :
Trials :
No Court, inferior to that of 1.[a Metropolitan Magistrate or a Judicial Magistrate of the first class] shall try any offence under section 3, section 4, section 5, section 6, section 7 or section 8.
State Amendment :
Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh :
In its application to the States of Punjab and Haryana and the Union territory of Chandigarh, in Section 22, for the words a Magistrate as defined in clause (c) of section 2, substitute a Chief Judicial Magistrate or any other Judicial Magistrate of the first class, specially empowered by the High Court.Punjab Act 25 of 1964, Section 2 and Sch. (w.e.f. 2-10-1964).
